At the Pearl Harbor National Memorial, students don’t just learn history — they feel it. Standing over the sunken hull of the USS Arizona, they connect to the solemn sacrifice of 1,177 American sailors. Walking through the exhibits, they confront the realities of global conflict, the high cost of war, and the enduring value of peace. For students and teachers alike, Pearl Harbor is more than a place — it’s a living classroom.
But for many, that classroom is out of reach.
Across Hawaiʻi and the U.S. mainland, thousands of teachers and students — especially from Title I and under-resourced schools — face insurmountable barriers to visiting Pearl Harbor or incorporating this essential history into their curriculum. From transportation and meals to educational materials and time, the financial and logistical obstacles are real.
That’s why Pacific Historic Parks is launching the PEARL HARBOR FOREVER Educational Fund — a $10 million endowment whose annual proceeds will provide perpetual funding to support K–12 educational access to Pearl Harbor.
This fund ensures that no student is ever turned away from one of the most important historic sites in the United States simply because their family or school cannot afford it.
The PEARL HARBOR FOREVER Educational Fund will cover key field trip costs for schools and support impactful WWII education. It funds transportation, admissions, lunches, and curriculum materials, while also enabling guided field trips, teacher training, and virtual programs. This endowment ensures educators have free, high-quality tools and access to teach WWII history in meaningful, standards-aligned ways.
World War II history is foundational to understanding today’s global society. Yet many schools struggle to teach it deeply — particularly in underserved communities where time, staffing, and financial constraints limit opportunities.
This fund makes it free, simple, and powerful for schools to say yes.
