Today, we stand at a critical juncture in the life of this sacred site.
Honor Courage. Defend Memory. Preserve the Legacy of the USS Utah.
On the quiet shores of Ford Island lies one of Pearl Harbor’s most overlooked but powerful sites of remembrance — the USS Utah Memorial. This solemn tribute honors the 54 brave sailors who gave their lives during the surprise attack on December 7, 1941. Among the first to fall that morning, the men of the USS Utah represent the courage, sacrifice, and steadfast duty that define our nation — and the values of the great state of Utah.
Today, however, this historic site is under threat.
The USS Utah Memorial has deteriorated over time due to exposure to the elements. Even more urgently, the shoreline around the memorial is eroding, putting the site — and the story it tells — at increasing risk. Without immediate restoration and the installation of a protective retaining wall, we may lose the very ground upon which this tribute stands.
A promise that we remember. A promise that we honor. A promise that we teach.
Pacific Historic Parks, in partnership with the National Park Service, has launched a $5,000,000 campaign to fully restore the USS Utah Memorial, protect the shoreline from further erosion, and ensure the site receives ongoing preventive maintenance and preservation into the future.
The USS Utah is often overshadowed by other Pearl Harbor memorials, but her story — and the stories of the 54 men who perished—are no less vital. These sailors were among the first casualties of World War II, struck down in a moment of surprise, yet standing resolute in their duty.
Their service reminds us:
For students, veterans, and visitors from around the world, this memorial is a place of solemn reflection and vital education. Preserving this sacred site ensures that the values these men lived and died for continue to inspire the next generation.
When you support this effort, you join the ranks of Pearl Harbor Heroes — individuals who make it possible to preserve history and inspire the future.
As a donor, you will be recognized as a Plank Owner of the restored USS Utah Memorial — a title of honor drawn from naval tradition for those who were there at the beginning.
You may also choose to dedicate your gift in honor or memory of someone who has served, sacrificed, or inspired you. Their name — and your tribute — will become part of this living legacy.
Your gift will help:
This is a chance to honor the memory of 54 fallen heroes, protect a national treasure, and ensure that the story of the USS Utah is never forgotten.
All donors will receive an email confirmation that includes a special link to submit their Pearl Harbor Heroes Profile. Please watch your inbox for your donation confirmation and the HEROES LINK!
